 Innovation Voucher Scheme

The Innovation Voucher Scheme (IVS) launched by SPRING Singapore on 26 March 2009 seeks to encourage Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to work with public Knowledge Institutions (KI) like the Centres of Innovation in adopting technology to try out innovative ideas.

The Centre of Innovation in Environmental and Water Technology (EWT COI) in Ngee Ann Polytechnic focuses on the following areas:

  • Water & Wastewater Technology - Engineering Design & Innovation, Performance Evaluation Treatment
  • Waste Management - Resource Conversion, Recycling & Reuse
  • Clean Energy - Sustainable Energy, Energy Management, Energy Auditing
  • Pollution Control - Monitoring System Development & Enhancement, Pollutant Detection & Characterisation

  • The Table below outlines the various types of expertise and specific services offered by EWT COI:

Types of  Expertise Specific Services  Specific Services
    Technical Advisory Services

    • Technology-related market research or technology intelligence e.g.exploration of emerging technology for applications as per client project proposition
    • Technology feasibility study for applied R&D or product / prototype development opportunities e.g. incinerated ash recycling, ozone treatment for farming, production of biofuel from algae.
    • Research / assessment of new technology for productisation or commercialisation e.g. market survey on demands for novel domestic air purifier
    • Research for patents for adoption or verification for possible patent application
    Technical Support Services
    • 1st-cut laboratory testing of samples e.g. testing of water/wastewater samples to establish design criteria
    • Software routine basic development, customisation and script programming e.g. energy management & energy optimisation tools
    • Proof of concept of technology and / or innovative process e.g. laboratory-based pilot plant study for low energy anaerobic treatment system
    • Product or productivity improvement study and design e.g. computer simulation of product to evaluate design features
    • Third party validation or independent assessment e.g. efficacy of outdoor air cooling system
    • Performance testing viz regulatory requirements e.g. setting up testing protocols to meet noise regulations for factory machinery
    • Simple computer simulation and rapid prototyping services - for products or process systems prior to fabrication to establish optimal characterisation for bench-scale or test-bedding
    Transfer of technical know-how
    • Hands-on skills upgrading & technology capability development e.g. design & integration of Solar PV systems
    • Specialised technology training programmes e.g. customized training for company staff to operate newater treatment plant
    • Overseas study trips to explore adoption of foreign technology, including evaluation of new machinery and specific technology, for optimisation to local environment and adoption by industry
