1. What core expertise does the Centre have? The Centre focuses on 4 key areas in: Water & Wastewater Technology Waste Management Technology Pollution Control Technology Clean Energy Technology
2. What kind of services does the Centre offer to industry? · The Centre has a multi-disciplinary team with capabilities to work with industry through consultancy or applied research and development projects. Consultancy projects are to be funded by enterprises. However, enterprises can apply for funding from SPRING Singapore if they have novel ideas or innovative technology. · We offer a range of services such as conducting technology feasibility studies, third party performance evaluation of systems, process enhancement or improvements, product design, material characterisation, computer simulation, test bedding and design and development of products or technology. This list is not exhaustive. · The Centre has built up a state-of-the-art facility to support these services.
3. How do you ensure your technology is relevant for the market? We keep current through regular networking seminars, forums and visits to companies. We also jointly organise overseas study missions to keep pace with the latest technology, trends and development in our areas of specialities.
4. What kind of industries do you serve? While a large proportion of our projects are with the water, air, waste and energy industry sectors directly under our 4 focus areas, there have been many other industry sectors that leverage on our multidisciplinary expertise viz chemical, electronics, food, furniture, packaging, aquaculture, construction, semi-conductor and marine.
5. How will SMEs benefit from project collaboration with the Centre? By tapping on the Centre’s expertise, technical know-how and facilities, SMEs can enhance or develop new products/processes and bring their new technology ideas closer to the market. SMEs can thus move up the technology value chain with increased productivity and competitiveness. The collaborative opportunity will pave the way for future partnerships or possible spin-offs in R&D or other consultancy projects.
6. How do I go about engaging your services if I have a project in mind or some interesting product ideas? You can contact us for a discussion on your product ideas and desired outcome. Based on your needs, we will scope out the details of the project and bring together the expertise from our multidisciplinary team to work with you to bring ideas to market.
7. How is a typical process like, from the point when the SME first approach the EWTCOI for assistance in a potential project to the final delivery of the project?

8. Do you have any project where more than 1 SME collaborates with the Centre? There is no constraint on the number of parties collaborating together in a project. Consortia projects involving more than 1 client company (MNC and SMEs or a group of SMEs) can help to defray the total project cost so that each party has a lower initial project layout.
9. Who owns it if an intellectual property (IP) arises from the development of a project with EWTCOI? For projects where there is a clear indication that IP will arise, the ownership of an IP depends on the direct contribution from each party and must be clearly spelt out at the commencement of each project. This agreement must include terms related to IP rights, inventions and innovation, allocation of IP share ratios based on the extent of involvement, investment on manpower and resources.
