WSHP WSQ Qualifications

The Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Professionals Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) is a national Continuing Education & Training (CET) framework jointly developed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the industry. It aims to professionalise the WSH workforce by incorporating the world’s best practices and providing career upgrading pathways that are based on the competency requirements of different job levels.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic is a WDA appointed CET Centre for the full range of qualifications in the WSH Professionals WSQ. These are:

Assumed Skills and Knowledge



Certificate in WSH

At the entry level of Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health, the objective of this qualification is to provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to work in the WSH industry.


128 hours

1. ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 4 or Secondary 2 education; 
2. Completed a ES WSH module AND 
3. Preferably hold a WSH-related appointment




Advanced Certificate in WSH

This qualification provides learners with key competencies in WSH to become a WSH Coordinator. It allows them to coordinate the implementation of WSH management systems at supervisory level within a department be it in large organizations or in small to medium-sized organizations.


192 hours

1(a). ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 5 OR 
1(b). GCE “N” Level English grade 5 & Mathematics grade 5; AND 

2. Possess WSH skills and knowledge equivalent to that of Certificate in WSH with at least 1 year of WSH relevant working experience 




Specialist Diploma in WSH

 

Specialist Diploma in WSH would be the next progression after the Advanced Certificate. This qualification is one of the requirements necessary for registration as a WSH Officer under the Workplace Safety and Health Act. Upon registration, one can then practice as a WSH Officer asmentioned in the Act.


334 hours

1) A recognised Technology/Science-related diploma / Engineering degree; AND  
2) At least 2 years of WSH relevant working experience  

OR  

2)     GCE “O” Level English grade C6 or better OR ES Workplace Literacy (WPL) Level 6; AND  
2) GCE “O” Level Maths grade C6 or better OR ES Workplace Numeracy Level 6 (WPN), OR Mathematics bridging course(2); AND 
3) GCE “O” Level Science (Physics) grade C6 or better OR Physics bridging course(2); AND  
4) Possess WSH skills and knowledge equivalent to that of Advanced Certificate in WSH; AND  
5) At least 2 years of post-qualification(3) working experience as WSH supervisor, coordinator or similar occupational role




Assessment-only-Pathway (SDWSH)

The Assessment-Only Pathway (AOP) for the Specialist Diploma in WSH provides an alternative pathway to assess the competency of individuals to work in the capacity of safety officers. Candidates will be required to undertake a series of written assessments without having to attend the training course.

Stage 1: 1.5 hrs

Stage 2: 2.5 hrs

(Stages 1 & 2 are held on the same day)

Stage 3: 3 hrs

(Stage 3 comprises a 2-hr site visit & 1-hr interview, to be scheduled)

1)     A technical / engineering degree or diploma

2)     GCE “O” level credit in English (C6 or better)

3)     At least 5 yrs direct working experience in WSH

4)     a) Currently employed as a Safety Supervisor / Co-ordinator or equivalent or

       b) Recommended by employer / supervisor

Bridging Modules

a)     Chemistry

b)     Mathematics

c)     Physics

This module is a pre-requisite for applicants interested to apply for the Specialist Diploma in WSH or Occupational Hygiene / Modular courses in Occupational Hygiene but does not possess a GCE “O” level credit in

a)     Chemistry or Physics/Chemistry

b)     Mathematics or WPN Level 6

c)     Physics or Physics / Chemistry


32 hours


1)     GCE “O” Level credit in English (C6 or better) or Workplace Literacy Level 6 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)

And

2)     Evidence of conditional admission to the Specialist Diploma in WSH / Occupational Hygiene or modular courses in Occupational Hygiene





Graduate Certificate in WSH

 

This qualification charts the ways to becoming a WSH Auditor who can advise and lead a WSH audit. Persons at this level may be engaged as an independent party to evaluate WSH systems and performance that are not implemented and maintained by them.


170 hours

 

Track 1 
1. A recognised WSH degree qualification for WSHO registration with MOM(1); AND 
2. At least 2 years of post-WSH qualification working experience as a WSH officer or similar occupational role 

Track 2 
1. Technology/ Science-related/ Engineering diploma/degree; AND 
2. WSQ Specialist Diploma in WSH qualification (Level C); AND 
3. At least 2 years of post-WSH qualification working experience as a WSH officer or similar occupational role 

Track 3 
1. GCE “O” Level English & Mathematics grade B4 or ES Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 7; AND 
2. WSQ Specialist Diploma in WSH qualification (Level C); AND At least 2 years of post-WSH qualification working experience as a WSH officer or equivalent
