ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTANCY

 

Overview

The Advanced Diploma in Accountancy offered under the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme (ELP) is an 18-month work-study programme tailored for fresh polytechnic graduates who hold a Diploma in Accountancy (or equivalent) from the four local polytechnics. The aim of this programme is to deepen the technical knowledge and skills required by the accountancy profession. Graduates from the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy will be specialists in the domains of accounting, auditing and taxation.

The Advanced Diploma in Accountancy consists of four Post-Diploma Certificates (PDC), including a compulsory 180 hour structured on-the-job training with an Accredited Training Organisation. Through this work-study programme, participants will acquire and manifest the requisite professional knowledge and skills to perform effectively in their assigned job roles. Participants will take the same centralised exams of the Singapore CA Qualification (Foundation) conducted by the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC), except for the practicum module.

Graduates from the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy may progress to the Singapore CA Qualification to attain the Chartered Accountant of Singapore designation. Graduates may also look forward to career progression to mid-level job positions and better job prospects within the accountancy sector.

Course Fee

SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme participants will not be required to pay any course fees or exam fees. The course fees and exam fees for the programme will be borne by the employer.

For Employers: Course fees are payable on a per certificate basis and are inclusive of GST. Course fees are determined based on prevailing funding policies and is subject to annual review and revision.

Entry Requirements

Fresh polytechnic graduates from the following courses are eligible to apply for the Advanced Diploma in Accountancy offered under the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme (ELP):

  • Diploma in Accountancy (Singapore Polytechnic)
  • Diploma in Accountancy & Finance (Nanyang Polytechnic)
  • Diploma in Accounting & Finance (Temasek Polytechnic)

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness.  Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Course Structure

Post-Diploma Certificate in Financial Reporting & Tax
Modules Synopsis
Principles of Financial Reporting

This module provides students with knowledge of the Conceptual Framework and the Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) to produce a complete set of financial statements for single entities, including basic notes to the accounts.  Students will also be able to explain and advise on the application of the SFRS, demonstrating appropriate professional judgment.
Singapore Taxation This module equips students with the core knowledge of the underlying principles and major technical areas of taxation through a variety of business and personal scenarios and situations. Upon completion of this module, students should be able to compute tax liabilities, explain the basis of their calculations, apply ethical tax-planning techniques for individuals and companies, and identify the compliance issues for each major tax type.

Post-Diploma Certificate in Financial Management & Accounting for Decision Making
Modules Synopsis

Financial Management

This module provides students with knowledge and skills to manage the finance function of a business.  The module will delve into the scope of finance, working capital management and the cost of capital.  Students will be exposed to different investment appraisal techniques and business valuation models. Key risk-management elements and other business finance issues will also be explored.

Accounting for Decision Making

This module develops management accounting techniques for planning, control, and decision-making. The key focus is on analysis of relevant information for decision-making by management. Upon completion of the module, students will have gained practical knowledge through the application of various strategic management accounting tools and techniques.

Modules Synopsis

Advanced Financial Reporting

This module provides students with sound knowledge of the Conceptual Framework and the Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) to produce a complete set of consolidated financial statements for simple groups, including basic notes to the accounts.  Students will also be able to explain the treatment and disclosure of hedge accounting, demonstrating appropriate professional judgment.

Assurance

This module provides students with sound knowledge of the nature, purpose, and scope of assurance engagements.  Students will be able to demonstrate how an auditor obtains an understanding of the entity, plans and performs audit procedures, collects and documents evidence, and presents reports for statutory audits in accordance with the Singapore Standards on Auditing and Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
Post-Diploma Certificate in Accounting Practice
Modules Synopsis
Structured Practicum with Accredited Training Organisation This module encompasses 180 hours of industry practicum in accounting, auditing or taxation under the supervision of an approved mentor in an Accredited Training Organisation (ATO) over a minimum period of 18 months.  Students must gain full-time employment with an ATO and fulfil the required practicum training hours and minimum employment period in order to complete the module.

Some lessons in the modules of this course may be conducted via online learning where participants will be able to learn at their own pace anywhere and/or anytime.

Assessment

Participants will take the same centralised exams of the Singapore CA Qualification (Foundation) conducted by the SAC, except for the practicum module.
