'TOURISM IN ACTION' CHALLENGE

OVERVIEW

  • Students working in teams of 4 students will explore creative ways of planning a responsible holiday in Malaysia (pre, during and post). They will then be challenged to develop a collateral piece which communicates these creative ways to their peers. They have to bear in mind the sensitivity and the sustainability of eco-tourism such as responsible travel and environmental sustainability.
  • Prior to the event, students are required to identify a destination in Malaysia and undertake some research on various ecotourism attractions and practices. Good sources of reference include www.lonelyplanet.com and www.tourismmalaysia.gov.my.
  • The teams will be provided a ‘tool box’ with basic stationery and construction materials to develop the collateral on the spot. In addition, four recyclable stations will be set up by NP to allow the teams to have access to additional construction materials, if needed. Participating teams are not allowed to use their own construction materials.
  • Each team will be assigned a student facilitator from NP.
  • Teams will have 90 minutes to complete their collateral.
  • At the end of the challenge, all teams will be required to make a 3 minute presentation to the judges to provide key highlights of their submission.
