The Diploma in International Business (IBZ) students get the opportunity to gain invaluable first-hand international experience when the School of Business & Accountancy (BA) introduced the “International Business Explorer Series”. The series gives IBZ students the freedom to propose a visit to a country whose business culture they are keen to explore. The first destination was Tokyo, Japan, a country rich with traditions, cultural and social norms.
Before the trip, the students undertook a 9-day workshop to better understand the Japanese culture and business etiquette. During the trip, they stayed with Japanese host families to further immerse themselves into the Japanese culture.

The students also visited a number of well known Japanese companies, which included Kao Corporation, Nippon Yusen and Nissan. They learnt about corporate culture, company operations and challenges faced in the international business arena.
As the students tie the theory to their practical learning, they note, “Having gained first-hand insight into the Japanese culture and business operations, we are now better prepared to work with them, or in their country in future. Thanks to the International Business Explorer Series, we are able to absorb so much. The world is our oyster and we can’t wait for our next learning adventure!”
