"Hi, my name is Yeow Koon and I specialized in Service Management as part of my Diploma in Business Studies . In the second semester of my third year, I completed my internship at the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). It was a memorable and meaningful internship for me.
During the course of the internship which was from September 2008 to February 2009, I was placed in a department called Terminal Operations under the Airport Operations Division for Terminal 3. Basically, it’s a department that ensures the smooth flow of the many terminal functions and activities. Any abnormalities will be dealt with directly or through coordination with external contractors. The two-pronged learning focus given to us by our supervisors consisted of customer service and terminal operations. Together with a group of other NP interns, we formed a Customer Service Team led by a Duty Terminal Manager with three senior Customer Service Officers. Our task was to render customer service to passengers while helping to ensure the smooth flow of terminal operations. In order to fulfill our job scope, we needed to pick up knowledge ranging from airport directional information to standard operating procedures.
The internship exposed me to the globalized and multi-cultural airport community, which broadened my perspective of different types of people. The frontline nature of the job naturally helped to improve my speaking and listening skills.
My internship stint was so enjoyable that I accepted the extension offer of one more month to help my supervisors to prepare work for the incoming batch of interns."
