| 4th Singapore RoboCup
Junior 2008
Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Engineering, Alpha Centre, will host the 4th Singapore RoboCup Junior 2 x 2 League Championship. The primary goals of the tournament are creating a learning environment for today, fostering understanding among humans and technology for tomorrow. The 3-day event is scheduled to take place from 11 to 13 November 2008 at Ngee Ann Convention Centre. It will be a stay-in camp cum tournament. The invited school is to send one (4 students) or two teams (8 students) and one teacher-in-charge to the event. Participating students and teachers are provided accommodation at the well-facilitated quarter in the campus. Polytechnic Staff and qualified engineering students are providing training and mentors in the camp. One of the learning objectives is to introduce the in-house developed RoboCup Junior Robot Controller board to the teams so that they can develop and build better soccer robots in the future competitions. The registration fee for each team is S$100 (4 students). This covers all the meal and lodging expenditures. Your students will also take the opportunity to experience polytechnic life. We waived all the teachers’ fee for their supporting to the event. Trophies and medals will be given to the best 4 teams. In conjunction of the tournament final on 13 November 2008, we are including a new event, called the Robot Fusion Humans Dance Competition. More information regarding this event can be obtained from the RoboCup Junior Australia website. Interested schools can submit their registration online from 5 August to 3 September 2008 before 5pm. Updates (5 November 2008) As in today's registration, there are 23 teams participated in Singapore RoboCup Junior 2on2 Tournament. Due to the security and safety concerns, the organizer decided to withdraw the "stay-in" camp activity. All the participating teams will leave the competition arena upon the end of each day's programme. Please don't feel disappointed if you have opted for the "stay-in" camp because the organizer is planning to host a "stay-in" RoboCup Junior controller training camp in the near future. Updates (2 September 2008) The initial plan of this year tournament was a stay-in camp for 3 days 2 nights but the feedbacks from schools showed that the student’s safety and security are in concern. Taking the positive response on the schools’ concern, the RoboCup Junior organizing committee decided to make the stay-in camp as an option and we also waived the registration fee. For those who registered for stay-in camp, we will make all the effort to assure the safety and security while they are staying in the campus with us. We will be extending the deadline for the registration until 22 September 2008 (Monday), 5pm for your school to consider to participate in the meaningful and technology driven event.
