How is the academic year structured?

The academic year consists of 2 semesters. The April semester ends in August while the October semester ends in February. Common tests and examinations are held once in each semester. Common Tests are held in the middle of the semester, and Exams are held at the end of the semester.

Does Ngee Ann Polytechnic provide any language courses to students before admission?

If you are a current year 'O' Level holder and missed meeting the minimum English requirement of your desired course by one grade, but obtained at least a B4 grade in Mathematics and a relevant subject, you can apply for conditional admission through the Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE) . Priority will be given to those with Distinctions in Mathematics and a relevant subject.

We do not conduct preparatory English classes for students before their admission. Students must first meet the entry requirements for English before they are considered for courses in the Polytechnic.

Currently, language classes in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Business Mandarin and Bahasa Indonesia are open only to students of the Polytechnic.

What is the average time a polytechnic student spends on the campus everyday?

The amount of time a student spends on campus varies from course to course. On average, they spend about 25-30 hours a week attending lectures, tutorials and practicals. In addition, many students remain on campus after classes for sports, co-curricular activities, other recreational activities and self-study.

Does the Polytechnic incorporate industrial training/attachment as a compulsory component of the curriculum?

As polytechnic courses are practice-oriented, industrial training/attachment is a compulsory component of the curriculum. This is usually scheduled during the second or third year of study and students spend between 4 to 6 months on attachment.

How many examinations are there in an academic year?

There are two examinations per year, one in August and the other in February.

If students fail their examination, will they be given a second chance?

Students who are unsuccessful in an examination may be required to repeat the subject/modules where they have not achieved the required standard. If they did not achieve the required standard for the minimum number of subjects/modules, they may be dismissed from the Polytechnic.
