There isn't a right or a wrong way to submit your application, but there are a number of things that you should consider to make the most out of your application.

Know the NP courses you qualify for

If you are eligible for JAE, you will receive a Form A from your Secondary School on the day that the GCE ‘O’ Level results are announced. It indicates which NP courses you qualify for. Here’s what it looks like:

Maximise your 12 choices

In your JAE application, you are given 12 choices. Here’s how you can maximise your 12 choices

●     Your first 3 to 4 choices: Go for what you are most passionate about even if you don’t meet the past year’s cut-off points. Cut-off points are just a guide and may vary from year to year.

●     Your next 3 to 4 choices: Choose what you are interested in and stand a good chance of getting into – for example, courses with cut-off points around your aggregate score.

●     Your last few choices: Include less competitive courses which you can clearly get into - for example, courses with cut-off points well above your aggregate score.

Remember to fill up all 12 choices even if you are really confident of getting into your desired course.

Know that your CCA grade plays a part

As CCA bonus points have not been taken into consideration in the computation of the aggregates printed on Form A, you can deduct 2 bonus points from your aggregate if you get a CCA grade of A1 or A2, or 1 point if you get a CCA grade of B3 to C6.

The net aggregate score, after taking into consideration your CCA grade, will be used for ranking and selection purposes.

Explore another option if your aggregate score does not meet last year’s COP for your desired course

If your aggregate doesn’t meet last year’s COP for your favourite course, you should consider another option – applying through JPSAE as well (if you are eligible) to fully maximize your chances of getting into that course.

At the same time, rank your favourite course as the top choice in the JAE, because the JPSAE selection panel will take that as an indication of your interest in the course.

Also remember, that the COP of a course is a guide, and may vary each year. As long as your favourite course is listed in your JAE Form A, you’re eligible to apply for it.
