 Chinese Studies (CHS)

The Diploma in Chinese Studies (CHS) has strong collaborations with local and overseas institutions. All CHS students spend a semester studying in a renown Chinese university such as Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) or Huazhong Normal University (HNU). Those on the teaching track will then proceed to complete their CHS Diploma in their last semester at the Singapore's National Institute of Education in Singapore. Meanwhile, the media track students will be attached to various established media companies for their internships or project work.  Media companies which our CHS media students were attached to include SPH Chinese Newspapers Division, MediaCorp, etc.

Extracts from teaching track students sharing their experience at NIE:-

"Cultivating Self and Others - The CHS course has helped me to think in depth and become a well-balanced person. To be a competent teacher, one has to cultivate self and others. For self, we have to constantly upgrade ourselves and improve on our Chinese standard, so as to be a wise and knowledgeable teacher. We should also try to create our own teaching techniques and methodologies so as to build a bridge between us and the students for effective learning."  - From Dexing, 2008 final year CHS student (Teaching Track).

"Intensive & Enriching Course - The lecturers often share their teaching experiences by telling us some of the everyday happenings in the campus. These interesting and humorous stories are great sources of inspiration to the students. We also learnt new and creative methods of teaching from the lecturers." - From Cuiyan, 2008 final year CHS student (Teaching Track).
