The Straits Times will be publishing a special newspaper feature titled ‘Scholarship & Top University Special’ on 17 July. In conjunction with this, it will be holding an exhibition and seminar at Suntec City Concourse from 10am to 6pm the same day to meet the needs of students and their parents in selecting scholarships and universities.

At the Exhibition:

1) More than 35 top universities from 

-  US (eg Yale, Stanford, MIT, Columbia, Duke, Northwestern, UCLA, UC Berkley, Cornell University…)

-  UK (Imperial College London, University of Warwick, University of Nottingham…)

-  Germany (Technical University Hamburg Harburg, Baden-Würtemberg…), as well as 

-  Singapore (NUS, NTU, SIT…).

2) More than 20 leading scholarship sponsors (from both private and public sectors), and

3) Overseas study information service: The United States Education Information Centre, ICON+, The British Council and German Academic Exchange Service.

Interact directly with student alumni reps and scholars from these prestigious universities and get extra tips on selecting an university, study experiences and specific scholarships.

At the Seminar (10am - 5.30pm): 

Speakers will guide you in sharpening your application. In addition, hear scholars will share their personal experiences on how they aced that scholarship interview and the decision process in choosing a scholarship.

Between 70% and 80% of FMS graduates are awarded Bachelor's degrees, whether by our local universities or scores more across the globe, within 5 years of graduating from our courses. This is because some of them work for a year or more before embarking on undergraduate studies. 

Since 2008, when Chapman University Singapore was established in partnership between us and top-ranked film school Chapman University in America, we have also been offering an accelerated, two-year university programme with local fees for FMS grads. Chapman University Singapore has been named one of the top film schools in the world by authoritative industry journal, The Hollywood Reporter in 2010. Besides obtaining Communication and Media degrees, a number of them also leverage on our broad-based training to read Law, Business, Design, Arts & Social Sciences and even Archaeology.

Going all the way

When it comes to furthering their studies, some of our alumni have gone all the way, even completed their doctoral (PhD level) studies. In fact, one of our MCM graduates, Samuel Wong, made local history by being the first to have gone directly from his diploma to read his PhD on invitation of the University of Sheffield. Dr Wong, who performed solo at the 2009 National Day Parade, is a tutor with LaSalle College of the Arts and also an adjunct lecturer with Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Another alumnus, Anthony Chen, has moved straight from his FSV Diploma to a Masters programme at London's National Film and Television School on an $80,000 MDA scholarship.

Syllabi & Transcript

It's important to keep the following documents, which you will have to produce to prove that you have completed your diploma course and for the university to award you any credits and exemptions:

- your syllabi (all three years)

- your final transcript (obtainable from Ngee Ann upon graduation).

Credits and Exemptions

Each university has its own internal policies and practices, and although many of them are familiar with FMS, there are few formal agreements that have been entered into. 

Still, virtually any higher education institution will grant you exemptions, provided you go into a degree programme in a similar field as Mass Communication, Film, Sound & Video or Digital Visual Effects. You will need to show your transcript and, if the university is not familiar with your course, your three-year syllabus too. Exemptions are usually given on a case-by-case basis, and may also depend on how well you did for the modules.
